Douglas M. Goumas, MD is a sports medicine, shoulder replacement, and knee replacement specialist. Dr. Goumas performs minimally invasive surgery of the shoulder and knee, and specializes in arthroscopic rotator cuff repairs and ACL reconstructive surgery.

Dr. Goumas spent a lot of time playing sports when he was growing up and that led to his interest in orthopedic surgery: “After injuring my shoulder playing football in my junior year of high school, I went to the orthopedic surgeon and was fascinated by what he did. The knee surgery that I perform includes ACL reconstruction, patellofemoral realignment surgery and knee arthroscopy including meniscal surgery. I also perform total knee replacement surgery. In addition, I have experience in surgery for tennis elbow and bicep tendon injuries.”

Dr. Goumas grew up in a factory town in Ansonia, Connecticut, outside of Bridgeport and he takes pride in making all of his patients feel comfortable: “Being a doctor was really unheard of from where I grew up. Dr. Habibpour attended one of Iran’s most prestigious medical schools. Afterwards he completed an adult psychiatry residency at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond and then went on to complete a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He has had 12 years of clinical experience treating patient of all ages.
